The Kneejerks' Rule of Thumb

I know the main reason why the GW Bush administration has at nearly every turn made the wrong and most harmful decisions. It is because they never consider any issue on its own merits or drawbacks. Instead they look first and last at what the Democrats, liberals, progressives, and the like would do. Then they say that the opposite must be the way to go, and down in that direction they pull things along, deeper into their well of swarming nadirs.

So when you allow such regimes such as those of modern Republicans to have the lion's share of power, you get the peculiar situation in which, in a certain sense, the good guys are actually doing the country a disservice by advocating their clearly better stands, when even the most casual observation can reveal that those at the controls will then turn the wheels in the opposite, disastrous direction.

That is why, when you hear about any clearly worthwhile measures to take, such as making every effort to push development of alternate sources of energy such as wind and solar to the fullest instead of relying on continuing to extract fast diminishing oil even by force, you have to swallow hard, knowing that the GOPers will invariably come out urging something else entirely, such as increasing the number of potential and therefore probable Chernobyls in our midst.

It gets so bad that I'm glad that liberals don't spend much time expressing their satisfaction with the fact that every day the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. Because then the right-wingers would surely advocate ways such as detonating thousands of h-bombs at certain strategic points to change the Earth's axis and so correct that circumstance that they never realized was such a deficiency until those terrible liberals praised it.
